Chelsea captain John Terry reportedly wants to use Jose Mourinho's appointment as manager to land a new three-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea captain John Terry reportedly wants to commit his long-term future to the Blues by signing a contract extension this summer.

Terry has 12 months left on his current deal at Stamford Bridge, with Monaco among the sides linked with a summer swoop for the central defender.

According to The Sun Terry has been encouraged by the return of Jose Mourinho as Blues boss and would accept reduced terms on a three-year deal if a suitable offer were made by the club.

Owner Roman Abramovich has set out a clear policy of not offering players over 30 a long-term contact, with Terry likely to be no exception despite his strong relationship with the Russian and Mourinho.

Club colleagues Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard have both accepted 12-month deals to stay at the Bridge in recent months, with other experienced figures allowed to leave on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old made just 28 appearances for Chelsea last season, falling down the pecking order under interim coach Rafael Benitez while also suffering through injury.
