Andreas Christensen's Chelsea future 'depends on Thiago Silva extension'

Chelsea are reportedly ready to sell Andreas Christensen this summer if he refuses to pen fresh terms, with Thiago Silva's possible extension complicating matters.

The future of Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen reportedly hinges on whether Thiago Silva stays at Stamford Bridge for another season or not.

Chelsea chiefs are reportedly hopeful of keeping Silva on the books for the 2021-22 campaign after the former Paris Saint-Germain defender quickly established himself as an integral part of the Blues' defence.

In contrast, Christensen has found opportunities at Chelsea hard to come by this season, although he did earn plaudits for his performance against Sheffield United when deputising for the injured Silva on Sunday.

Now, football.london claims that Chelsea could face a dilemma regarding Christensen's future and Silva's possible extension, with the former likely to leave if his Brazilian teammate does stay on for another year.

With the 24-year-old's current deal at Stamford Bridge due to expire in 18 months' time, the report adds that they could look to recoup a fee for him this summer rather than let him walk away for nothing at the end of next season if he refuses to pen fresh terms.

Christensen's outing at Sheffield United represented his 10th appearance in all competitions during the 2020-21 campaign, with six of those being Premier League starts.
