How Tottenham Hotspur could line up against Chelsea

Sports Mole looks at how leaders Tottenham Hotspur could line up for Sunday's Premier League trip to face London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Premier League leaders Tottenham Hotspur face manager Jose Mourinho's former club Chelsea in a perfectly-poised London derby at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Tottenham's title hopes continue to grow following their 2-0 triumph over Manchester City last weekend - a result which took them to the top of the table, where they have now spent longer this season than they have in the last 10 campaigns combined.

The difficult matches keep on coming for Spurs, though, and their credentials will face another stern examination against a Chelsea side in similarly good form.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Mourinho could set his side out on his latest return to Stamford Bridge.

Possible TOT XI vs. CHE

Out: Toby Alderweireld (groin), Erik Lamela (foot)
Doubtful: Hugo Lloris (knock), Giovani Lo Celso (knock), Steven Bergwijn (knock)

Mourinho's main absentee for this match is Toby Alderweireld, who limped off against Man City last weekend and now faces up to four weeks on the sidelines - although his injury is not as serious as first feared.

Davinson Sanchez offers Mourinho his most experienced alternative, but the Colombian has been out of favour this season and the fact that he played the full 90 minutes against Ludogorets on Thursday night suggests that Joe Rodon may instead be handed his full Premier League debut alongside Eric Dier.

Matt Doherty is also pushing for a start having now recovered from coronavirus; he was left out of the matchday squad on Thursday but is available for selection if Mourinho deems him fit enough.

Much has been made about the fact that Chelsea, who boast an injury-free squad incidentally, have had two days more than Spurs to rest ahead of this one, but there should still be good news for the visitors on a few of their doubts.

Hugo Lloris, Giovani Lo Celso and Steven Bergwijn are all expected to overcome knocks in time and should be in contention to feature.

Erik Lamela is Tottenham's only other injury doubt, but they are not exactly short of goals at the moment with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in fine form.

Kane has been directly involved in 16 Premier League goals already this season - seven goals and nine assists - incredibly averaging a goal involvement every 50 minutes.

Son, meanwhile, has already helped himself to nine league goals this season and could become the first Tottenham player to reach double figures in 10 games or fewer since Gary Lineker in 1991-92.
