Andre Villas-Boas says that Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole were "disappointed" after the England pair were left out of Tuesday's Champions League loss to Napoli.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole were "disappointed" after the duo were left out of Chelsea's 3-1 defeat to Napoli on Tuesday evening.

Villas-Boas left the England pair on the bench for the club's first-leg tie in Italy, with both players seemingly despondent with the decision.

"I had a conversation with Ashley and Frank. Normally, though the players that they are and the players with the experience they have, they felt they could have helped the team," Villas-Boas told The Mirror.

"That's perfectly understandable. Of course they were disappointed, but they were decisions that they have to accept and move on."

Chelsea face Bolton Wanderers in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
