Jose Mourinho: 'I won't risk Fernando Torres'

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insists that he won't risk the fitness of striker Fernando Torres against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that striker Fernando Torres will not return from injury against Newcastle United.

It had been reported earlier this week that the Spaniard had recovered from a knee injury, but Mourinho has insisted that it's not the right time of the season to risk any injuries to his first-team players.

The 51-year-old told reporters: "He is almost there, but not there. If it was the last game of the season, I'd say 'let's go and do it' but there's no point to risk him now.

"It's not the moment to lose players; it's the moment to try to have them all. Tuesday is a better possibility. We have just a couple of little things, not really injuries, that we have to assess and decide what we're going to do."

Torres has scored eight goals in 23 appearances for Chelsea during this campaign.
