England boss Roy Hodgson has clarified that Ashley Cole will captain the Three Lions in their international friendly with Republic of Ireland on Wednesday.
Hodgson suggested in a press conference that Frank Lampard would continue his role as skipper in place of the injured Steven Gerrard, but it has now been confirmed that Cole will lead his country.
Cole, who recently made his 100th appearance for England, will be awarded the armband in honour of his long service to his country.
The former Arsenal left-back, now of Chelsea, has thus far declined to comment to the media.
