Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Newcastle United

Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Premier League meeting with Newcastle United at St James' Park.

Chelsea will be looking to pick up where they left off when they return to action after the international break with a trip to face Newcastle United at St James' Park.

The Blues won four games in a row by an aggregate score of 14-1 prior to the break and now boast the best attacking record in the division with 20 goals from their eight outings.

Victory in the opening match of the gameweek would catapult Frank Lampard's side temporarily top of the Premier League table, and they will be favourites to overcome a Newcastle side with only one win in their last four outings.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the contest.

Kai Havertz

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Coronavirus
Possible return date: November 21 (vs. Newcastle)

Kai Havertz tested positive for coronavirus in the buildup to the Champions League win over Rennes prior to the international break and, while he has now been given the green light to return to training, he is still expected to miss this game as a result of the knock-on effect of the virus and subsequent isolation on his fitness.

Christian Pulisic

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: November 29 (vs. Tottenham Hotspur)

Christian Pulisic missed the last two games before the international break after suffering a hamstring injury during the warm-up for October's Premier League meeting with Burnley. Lampard is unwilling to take any risks over the American's fitness and so it is expected to be at least another week before he returns to action.

Ben Chilwell

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Back
Possible return date: November 21 (vs. Newcastle)

Ben Chilwell picked up a back injury while on international duty with England but was still deemed fit enough for the bench against Iceland on Wednesday and Lampard is optimistic about his fitness for this match.

Thiago Silva

Status: Major doubt

Possible return date: November 21 (vs. Newcastle)

Lampard revealed that Thiago Silva is highly unlikely to make the trip to Newcastle, having only landed back in England on Thursday afternoon after international duty with Brazil.
