Brendan Rodgers hails "special" Celtic achievement

Brendan Rodgers is delighted to see his current Celtic crop make history, having defeated St Johnstone on Saturday to make it a British record 62 domestic games unbeaten.

Brendan Rodgers has praised his Celtic players for their "remarkable" consistency after breaking the club's own British record of 62 domestic games undefeated.

The Hoops reached the milestone figure with a 4-0 win away to St Johnstone on Saturday afternoon, taking them past Willie Maley's famous side of 1917.

Childhood Celtic fan Rodgers still has yet to taste defeat in a domestic game since taking charge in May 2016, earning a clean sweep of honours in his maiden campaign and looking good value to do likewise this time around.

Rodgers was keen to hail the ability of his squad after the win at McDiarmid Park, telling BBC Sport: "Celtic holding that British record, it is special. If you look back at that team Willie Maley had, I grew up being aware of players from that era, like Patsy Gallacher, so that tells you the level of quality of that team.

"They have faced everything as football players - going behind in games, playing on dodgy surfaces, playing on Astroturf pitches, being tired after games, going behind in games, semi-finals, finals. It hasn't just happened overnight. It is something that's been created - a mentality and a desire to work.

"The level of consistency is absolutely remarkable. As the run goes on, teams increase their level even more. Every game against Celtic is a massive game. Everyone wants to be the team that beats Celtic."

Celtic, who are now three points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, face Ross County in their next outing on November 18.
