Brendan Rodgers: "We ran out of legs"

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers admits that his team "ran out of legs" in the second half of Tuesday night's 7-0 defeat to Barcelona.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that his team "ran out of legs" in the second half of Tuesday night's Champions League Group C match against Barcelona.

The Scottish giants had the chance to level the scores in the 24th minute of the clash at Camp Nou, but Moussa Dembele missed from the penalty spot and Barcelona went on to record a thumping 7-0 victory.

Rodgers believes that "it could have been a different" had Dembele scored from the spot, but has refused to criticise his players after putting so much effort into the Old Firm derby with Rangers at the weekend.

"We put a huge effort into the weekend and got a fantastic victory. It was always going to be difficult in this game. In the first half we had a critical moment. If we had scored for 1-1 then it could have been different," Rodgers told BT Sport.

"In the second half we just ran out of legs. It became very difficult and the final score was very disappointing, but we can take a lot from the game in terms of technique and quality.

"It was always going to be a really long night, but you have to try and give them something to think about. For a little period in the first half we looked a real threat. If we had put the penalty away, it could have been different."

The seven-goal defeat at Camp Nou is Celtic's worst ever loss in a European match.
