Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has claimed that Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has been guilty of constructive dismissal towards manager Malky Mackay.
The Scottish boss revealed that he expected the sack by Tan after he received an email from the Malaysian asking him to resign or face being fired last week.
Lawrenson told The Mirror: "The 'resign or be sacked' email [Tan] sent Malky was tantamount to constructive dismissal. If he wanted rid of him then why didn't he just sack him and be done with it?
"Anyone with half a brain knows that longevity in management just doesn't happen any more and that managers come and go these days – but Vincent Tan has dealt with the situation in completely the wrong way.
"I have heard so many people say that Tan thinks Malky Mackay is a Championship manager – I bet he couldn't even name six Championship teams."
Mackay recently stated that he sought clarification on his future with Tan.
