Burnley's Sam Vokes: 'Scoring goal to seal Premier League promotion was magical'

Burnley striker Sam Vokes says that it felt 'magical' to score the winner that sent the club back into the Premier League.

Burnley striker Sam Vokes has admitted that it felt 'magical' to score the goal that sent the club back into the Premier League, one year after they fell back into the Championship.

The Clarets earned automatic promotion to the top flight this afternoon thanks to a 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers at Turf Moor.

Vokes, who missed the tail end of last season's Premier League campaign because of injury, broke the deadlock in the 61st minute.

When asked by Sky Sports News how it felt to score the winner, the striker said: "It's magic, it's a great feeling. You could feel the anticipation around the place when we kicked off. We knew what we had to do after the Brighton result earlier.

"Magic scenes here today. Getting that goal sparked relief around the place. I missed a lot of the Premier League last season but hopefully I'll get another chance next season."

Burnley have a two-point lead at the top of the standings ahead of Middlesbrough and Brighton & Hove Albion, who will play one another for the last remaining automatic promotion spot next weekend.

The Clarets' final game of the season is away to Charlton Athletic next Saturday.
