Bristol City release experienced quartet

Bristol City stalwart Louis Carey is one of four experienced players to be released after a disappointing campaign in League One.

Bristol City have announced that they have released four experienced members of their squad after finishing in midtable in League One.

Veteran defender Louis Carey, who has made 646 appearances over a 19-year spell with the club, has left Ashton Gate, while Marvin Elliott has also departed after featuring on 262 occasions.

Former captain Liam Fontaine will also be required to find a new club during the summer after failing to make an appearance for the Robins since January.

Midfielder Stephen Pearson, who has been restricted to six appearances this season, has been allowed to seek a fresh start away from Steve Cotterill's team.
