Chris Hughton: 'Yves Bissouma is still learning'

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton describes Yves Bissouma as a "talented player" and insists that the £15m summer signing will improve over time.

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton has claimed that the costly error made by Yves Bissouma against Liverpool "is a learning curve" for the midfielder.

The £15m summer signing lost possession to James Milner inside his own half in the build-up to Mohamed Salah's winner 23 minutes into Saturday's match at Anfield.

Bissouma is still adapting to life in English football following his arrival from Ligue 1 side Lille, where he made 47 league appearances, and Hughton expects the 21-year-old to improve over time.

"It's a learning curve, but we shouldn't have got to that stage in the first place," he told the club's official website. "But overall I am pleased; he has trained very well, he's young and still getting used to the way we play.

"He's a talented player and he'll improve in each game. The reason I played him was because it gave us that little bit of a different dimension in midfield."

Bissouma has made 15 appearances for the Mali national team and played in their successful Africa Cup of Nations campaign two years ago.
