Russell Slade: 'Cardiff City beat Borussia Dortmund to Scott Malone'

Borussia Dortmund were in the running to sign left-back Scott Malone, according to Cardiff City manager Russell Slade.

Cardiff City manager Russell Slade has claimed that his side beat off competition from Borussia Dortmund for the signature of Scott Malone.

It was confirmed earlier today the left-back had completed his move from Millwall to the Cardiff City Stadium for an undisclosed fee.

However, Slade has revealed that the 23-year-old also had the option to join the 2013 Champions League finalists.

"Several other clubs were in for Scott. Borussia Dortmund made strong enquiries about him, while there were other Championship clubs keen," Slade is quoted as saying by Wales Online.

"We are delighted Scott has signed. He is 6'2" tall, athletic, [and] will give us a lot going forward and defensively."

Malone has agreed a contract with the Bluebirds until the summer of 2017.
