Dougie Freedman takes positives from Wigan Athletic defeat

Dougie Freedman says that Bolton Wanderers showed spirit against Wigan Athletic despite falling to a 3-2 defeat at the DW Stadium.

Bolton Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman has said that his players succumbed to emotion after coming from two goals down before eventually losing 3-2 to Wigan Athletic this afternoon.

Goals from Ben Watson and Nick Powell had put the hosts in control at the DW Stadium, but the Trotters pegged them back thanks to Neil Dann and Andre Moritz.

However, Callum McManaman's 68th-minute strike saw the visitors leave empty handed.

"As soon as the second goal went in, we showed too much emotion and that hurt us," Freedman told reporters. "That's the most disappointing thing. Apart from that the lads have got to take huge credit for the spirit they showed.

"The result wasn't to be with us today but the performance certainly was. If you've got a team playing like that, the results will pick up."

Bolton are 16th in the Championship.
