German midfielder Mario Gotze has expressed his desire to play Champions League football with Spanish giants Barcelona.
The former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund playmaker is now plying his trade with Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven and has settle into life in the Dutch top flight well since joining the club in October 2020.
However, the 28-year-old has not ruled out a future move to a club competing regularly in the Champions League and has revealed that it would be a "dream" to play alongside Lionel Messi at Barcelona.
"To celebrate possession football with this [Barcelona] team, alongside Lionel Messi, that would be a dream. I want to play the Champions League again," Gotze told 11Freunde.
Since Gotze scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final for Germany, the midfielder has struggled with several injuries and also suffered from a metabolic illness, which saw his career at the top level decline.
Gotze is now enjoying his time with PSV, where he has recorded six goals and six assists in 24 appearances so far this campaign.
