Preview: Atletico San Luis vs. Queretaro - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Liga MX clash between Atletico San Luis and Queretaro, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Round three of the 2023 Liga MX season sees Atletico San Luis entertain the challenge of Queretaro at the Estadio Alfonso Lastras on Sunday.

The hosts head into this one still in search of their first win of the new campaign, while the visitors set out to maintain their perfect start.

Match preview

Atletico San Luis fell to a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Guadalajara Chivas in Sunday's encounter between the teams at Estadio Akron.

Gustavo Leal's men conceded quickfire goals from Jonathan Padilla and Fernando Beltran but managed to pull one back before the interval through Unai Bilbao, after which Ronaldo Cisneros sealed the deal 10 minutes from time.

As a result, Los Atleticos have dropped down to 15th place in the Liga MX table and sit just one point off the bottom of the standings.

Coming up next is the task of facing off against an opposing side with little to choose over the most recent 10 meetings, which have yielded four wins apiece and two draws.

Having failed to win any of their last four matches on home turf, Sunday's hosts will be keen to return to winning ways in front of their fans.

Queretaro put on a late show to secure a 2-0 victory over Santos Laguna in their season curtain-raiser at the Estadio Corona two Mondays ago.

Mauro Gerk's men opened the scoring in the 81st minute through Federico Lertora before making sure of the result via a Camilo Sanvezzo strike in stoppage time.

Getting their league campaign off to a bright start, Los Gallos Blancos sit seventh in the standings, three points adrift of division leaders Guadalajara with a game in hand.

Currently on a run of three wins and a draw from four away matches leading up to Sunday's contest, the visitors have turned a corner on the road recently and will back themselves to secure a positive result here.

Team News

Unai Bilbao has netted in two of his last three appearances for Atletico San Luis, and the defender is proving to be a useful weapon in attack.

Twenty-nine-year-old Angel Zaldivar was given his marching orders in the hosts' last outing, making him ineligible to play a part this weekend.

Camilo Sanvezzo could be rewarded with a full debut in this one after the forward opened his Queretaro account off the bench last time out.

Clifford Aboagye is unavailable for the away side through injury, but the Ghanaian is expected to make his return to action sooner rather than later.

Atletico San Luis possible starting lineup:
Sanchez; Garcia, Bilbao, Dominguez, Chavez; Rodrigo, Guemez, Villalpando; Vitinho, Bonatini, Murillo

Queretaro possible starting lineup:
Allison; Manzanarez, Gularte, Mendoza; Lertora, Montecinos, Perlaza, Sierra, Escamilla; Barrera, Sepulveda

SM words green background

We say: Atletico San Luis 1-1 Queretaro

Atletico San Luis have scored and conceded at least one goal apiece in each of their last six games and we expect that trend to continue here. We are also backing a share of the spoils with honours even in the end.
