Atletico Madrid centre-back Diego Godin has said that he 'understands' why sections of the home support booed their team during Tuesday's 1-1 draw against Qarabag FK in the Champions League.
Atletico are facing a group-stage exit for the first time in eight years after dropping two more points in Madrid.
Godin has conceded that Atletico have not been good enough in the last few weeks, but the Uruguay international has called on the Atletico supporters to 'stay behind the team'.
"These whistles are normal and understandable," Marca quotes Godin as saying. "We can only look at ourselves and what we have done and are capable of doing, you always want to improve regardless of the situation.
"The fans must stay behind us and keep supporting us, as a club we all must stick together and emerge from this poor run of results – we all need to try more."
Atletico are currently third in Group C on three points - four points behind second-placed Chelsea.
