Nabil Ghilas strike lifts Cordoba off foot of table

Cordoba move off the foot of the La Liga table with a 1-0 victory away at Athletic Bilbao.

Nabil Ghilas's first-half strike has given Cordoba a 1-0 win away at Athletic Bilbao which moves the Andalusian side off the foot of the La Liga table.

Ghilas fired the visitors ahead after 23 minutes with a fine low shot from the edge of the area.

The hosts came close to levelling 10 minutes later through Ander Iturraspe, but the midfielder's shot flashed narrowly over the crossbar.

Markel Susaeta was then gifted Bilbao's best chance of the game shortly after the interval, but he sliced wide of the upright after being found in space inside the box.

The winger was then thwarted by a low save from Juan Carlos in stoppage time as Cordoba held on to secure three points which lifted them above Elche into 19th place.
