Arsene Wenger: Mohamed Elneny to sign for Arsenal "this week"

The work permit problems that have held up Mohamed Elneny's move from Basel to Arsenal should be resolved "this week", according to manager Arsene Wenger.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny should sign for Arsenal "this week".

The Gunners agreed a fee for the Egypt international earlier this month, but the move has been held up because of work permit issues.

However, when asked for an update during his press conference earlier today, the Arsenal boss revealed that the situation is nearing a conclusion.

"I expect movement. This week we are positive that it can happen. There is a lot of work permit problems and special paperwork to do. We hope we can finalise it this week," said the Frenchman.

It is believed that the Gunners will pay their Swiss counterparts around £5m for Elneny.
