Lyon reportedly failed with attempts to re-sign Alexandre Lacazette from Arsenal in January.

Lyon reportedly tried and failed to bring Arsenal's Alexandre Lacazette back to the club in January.

The 30-year-old now has less than six months left to run on his deal with Mikel Arteta's side and is not expected to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium.

Lacazette is therefore set to leave as a free agent at the end of the season, although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's exit means that he is now one of two senior strikers in the Arsenal ranks alongside Eddie Nketiah.

According to L'Equipe, via GFFN, Lyon attempted to prise Lacazette off Arsenal's hands during the winter window but were frustrated in their pursuit of their former striker.

The report adds that Lyon made contact with the Frenchman's entourage over a potential January move and have now earmarked the soon-to-be free agent as a prime target for the summer window.

Lacazette struck 129 goals in 275 games for Lyon before moving to Arsenal in the summer of 2017, recording 70 goals in 192 appearances for the Gunners since.
