Everton target Calum Chambers as John Stones replacement?

Arsenal defender Calum Chambers will be the subject of a January bid from Everton should John Stones leave Goodison Park, according to a report.

Everton have reportedly earmarked Arsenal defender Calum Chambers as a potential replacement for John Stones.

The 20-year-old England international has been strongly linked with a January move to Chelsea, having been the subject of numerous failed bids earlier this year.

According to The Sun, Everton fear losing their central defender should a fresh offer be made, which could mean a replacement being brought to Goodison Park.

Chambers is said to have grown frustrated by his lack of playing time at Arsenal, where he has been used sparingly as a utility player at full-back, defensive midfield and in the heart of defence.

The same report suggests that Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is happy to play the youngster in his preferred position, but he may have to offer the Gunners the full £16m initially splashed out to land him from Southampton.

Stones may bring in a £50m windfall for Everton should they sell, though, with both Chelsea and Manchester United expected to make a bid in the New Year.
