Arsenal will have to offload at least one more midfielder in order to sign Lyon's Houssem Aouar, according to a report.

Arsenal will reportedly have to offload at least one more midfielder in order to sign Lyon's Houssem Aouar during this summer's transfer window.

The Gunners are believed to have revived their interest in the Frenchman, who scored eight times and registered four assists in 33 appearances at club level during the 2020-21 campaign.

According to ESPN, Mikel Arteta's side are considering moving for the 23-year-old, but they will have to sell another midfielder before making a formal offer.

The report claims that Lyon could be willing to sell Aouar for a fee in the region of €25m (£21.4m) ahead of next season, which would be a huge discount on the €60m (£51.3m) that the North London side were allegedly quoted last year.

Matteo Guendouzi has already left the Emirates Stadium, while Martin Odegaard will not be returning next season following a loan spell from Real Madrid.

Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira continue to be linked with moves away, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Joe Willock are thought to be available for transfer in the current market.
