Martin Keown: 'Unai Emery could relegate Arsenal'

Arsenal could be relegated from the Premier League if they persist with Unai Emery as head coach, according to pundit Martin Keown.

Former Arsenal centre-back Martin Keown has claimed that the Gunners could be relegated from the Premier League if they persist with Unai Emery as head coach.

Thursday's 2-1 loss at home to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League means that Arsenal are now on a run of seven games without a win in all competitions.

The London club have not triumphed in the Premier League since the start of October, meanwhile, which has seen them slip into eighth position in the table.

The Gunners are eight points clear of the relegation zone ahead of this weekend's clash with Norwich City, although Keown has suggested that his former club could face a relegation battle if Emery stays in charge.

"Emery has taken the team as far as he can. We just witnessed an absolute shambles of a performance in that second half," Keown told BT Sport. "The team selection, the team motivation, the substitutions, the performance - everything was missing here. It was a dreadful performance.

"You have to go back to when the fans turned on Terry Neill 37 years ago. I was at the club when it happened and things got toxic in the club and I think we are getting close to that again.

"This is relegation form. Do the club realise how tricky this will now be? Decisions have to be made. There are football people at the top of the club that need to make the decisions that need to be made because otherwise Arsenal will plunge even further down the table."

The London club now face a trip to Norwich in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon before welcoming Brighton & Hove Albion to the Emirates Stadium next week.
