Ian Wright expects Arsene Wenger to leave Arsenal this summer

Arsenal and Arsene Wenger are heading for "divorce", claims former Gunners striker Ian Wright, who has also criticised the players at the Premier League club.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has claimed that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been 'let down' by his players this season and predicts a "divorce" at the end of the season.

Arsenal had been tipped to win the Premier League title this term following the struggles of their main rivals, but the capital side currently sit 11 points off the summit following a poor run of form.

Wenger's position at the Emirates has been thrown into doubt in recent weeks and Wright, who has previously criticised the attitude of the Arsenal players, would not be surprised if the Frenchman departed this summer.

"It hurts so much to even think it — but it feels like Arsene Wenger and Arsenal are heading for divorce," Wright wrote in his column for The Sun. "Judging from the way the fans have reacted over the past week, that's the impression I get.

I'm sure when that day arrives it will all be amicable and friendly, although it does leave a horrible feeling in the stomach right now. He had total faith in his squad, he was convinced it was good enough to win things. And with the way this season has panned out, it should have been.

"That is why when the announcement does come that Arsene has left Arsenal, every player in that dressing room should bow their heads. For when it comes down to it, they are the ones who have let him down more than anyone."

Arsenal were also eliminated in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at the weekend and are on the brink of exiting the Champions League at the hands of Barcelona.
