Arsene Wenger: "Arsenal underestimated Anderlecht"

Arsene Wenger admits that his side "underestimated Anderlecht" by throwing away a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 in the Champions League last night.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has conceded that his side's lack of mental strength cost them the chance of winning their Champions League group.

The Gunners threw away a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 against Anderlecht in dramatic fashion last night, falling five points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund with two games left to play as a result.

Die Borussen must travel to North London later this month, although Wenger has acknowledged that his side now have "little chance" of topping Group D.

"It was a combination of fatigue and switching off," the Frenchman is quoted as saying by FIFA.com. "We dropped off and were always open. We didn't stop the crosses or the long balls. It is very disappointing.

"Maybe subconsciously we underestimated Anderlecht at 3-0. In the Champions League you need to be at your best mentally and we weren't today.

"We have very little chance of winning the group. The luck we have is with the qualification, we still have a chance. If we had lost tonight we would have been in a very bad situation with qualification."

Arsenal have finished second in their group in each of the last four seasons.
