Reims continued their impressive start to the new Ligue 1 season after they earned a goalless draw away at Angers at the Stade Jean-Bouin this evening.
In an uneventful first half it took the best part of 40 minutes for either side to register a chance at goal, and it eventually came through Angers midfielder Pierrick Capelle who saw his long distance effort rise high and wide of the target.
The second period started with a little more purpose as Angers pushed to take the lead, but Romain Saiss saw his header saved by the Reims keeper following a standout cross from Thomas Mangani.
Saiss should have put the hosts ahead just a few moments later, only to guide his effort wide from the centre of the box as he looked to profit from the scraps of a home free kick.
Reims failed to produce much going forward in the game, although they almost found a vital goal through Nicolas de Preville, who watched his speculative shot fly just past the outside of the post.
Mangani's creativity almost proved the difference in the dying embers of the game when he sent in an inch-perfect ball for Abdoul Camara, only for the forward to send his header over the bar.
Gaetan Charbonnier thought that he was through for the visitors in the closing moments following a through-ball from Hamari Traore, before eventually being thwarted by the linesman's flag to leave the game goalless at the final whistle.
