Great Britain's Tom Daley has suggested that his "mind and body were not connecting" after the 22-year-old's shock elimination in the Olympic 10m platform diving competition in Rio.
Aiming to follow on from achieving a bronze at London 2012, Daley found things tough going in his semi-final contest and eventually finished in 18th place on Saturday.
"I could have won tonight. It is really hard to accept how it went today," said Daley, according to BBC Sport.
"When I am up on the board I am complete in the moment but today things were not clicking. I was so up for it but in the competition it fell apart. I am so proud to be part of Team GB, I just wanted to stand on top of that podium but it was not meant to be. Another four years of hard work to try again next time.
"My mind and body were not connecting. I gave it my all but it did not happen today."
The 10m platform diving saw China's Chen Aisen claim gold with a total score of 559.90.
