Daryl Gurney shocks Gary Anderson to reach quarter-finals at Minehead

Gary Anderson and Peter Wright bow out of the Players Championship Finals in Minehead as Daryl Gurney and Simon Whitlock reach the quarter-finals.

Daryl Gurney has moved into the quarter-finals of the Players Championship Finals after stunning world champion Gary Anderson with a 10-4 win in Minehead on Saturday night.

Anderson - who was also defending champion in this competition - and Gurney had shared the first eight legs between them as nothing could separate the duo at Butlins.

However, Gurney broke the Scot's throw to move 6-4 ahead in what proved the pivotal moment of the clash - and the Northern Irishman never looked back.

Elsewhere, Simon Whitlock reached his first major quarter-final for 18 months with a dramatic 10-9 win over the in-form Peter Wright.

Both men missed darts for the match in a thrilling last leg, but the Australian and former World Championship runner-up held his nerve at the key time to join Gurney in the last eight.

Ian White also edged a last-leg decider against Gerwyn Price, while world number one Michael van Gerwen averaged 103.23 on his way to a 10-6 triumph over Vincent van der Voort.
