Novak Djokovic can snatch back world number one ranking from Andy Murray

Novak Djokovic will regain his world number one ranking if he wins Wimbledon following Andy Murray's quarter-final exit.

Novak Djokovic has an extra incentive to win Wimbledon as he can take back the number one world ranking from Andy Murray.

The Serbian lost the top spot last year, but he is now three victories away from regaining his crown after the defending Wimbledon champion was knocked out at the All England Club.

Murray was taken to five sets by American Sam Querrey, and it became clear in the closing stages of today's quarter-final that his hip problem was preventing him from reaching his top level.

In the end, Querrey sealed a 3-6 6-4 6-7(4) 6-1 6-1 triumph, which makes him the first American male since Andy Roddick in 2009 to make a Grand Slam semi-final.

Djokovic will face Tomas Berdych in the quarter-finals this afternoon, and if he wins, he will go head to head with either Roger Federer or Milos Raonic for a place in the final.
