England get the better of Australia in epic first Test in Brisbane

England defeat Australia in their own backyard by a score of 39-28 in their first Test at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium.

England have recorded an emphatic 39-28 victory over Australia in Saturday's first Test at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium, only the Northern Hemisphere nation's fourth ever victory over the Wallabies.

The hosts raced into a 10-0 lead against Eddie Jones's charges within the first 15 minutes as Michael Hooper and Israel Folau crossed over, but Bernard Foley struck his conversions wide of the uprights.

In contrast, Owen Farrell was flawless with the boot as he kicked three penalties between the posts to reduce Australia's lead to one point, before Jonathan Joseph's try edged the tourists in front.

Farrell successfully dispatched the subsequent conversion, as well as another penalty just before half time, to put England 19-13 up at the break.

Marland Yarde added five more points for the Northern Hemisphere side shortly after the restart, while Farrell continued to plug away with his boot as Australia gave away penalties time and time again.

Michael Cheika's charges managed to rally round as Hooper and Tevita Kuridrani crossed over to bring the score to within four points, but Jack Nowell and Farrell had the final word for Jones's side.
