Preview: Woking vs. Barnet - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between Woking and Barnet, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Two sides that currently reside in the National League playoffs will face off on Tuesday when Woking play host to Barnet.

The Cardinals are looking to claim a second straight win, while Barnet are aiming to extend their unbeaten run to five matches in all competitions.

Match preview

After losing 1-0 to fellow playoff side Chesterfield on March 18, Woking bounced back with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Maidstone United at the weekend.

The contest looked to be heading towards a draw when Padraig Amond found the net in the 72nd minute to cancel out Josh Shonibare's opener.

As it proved, Amond produced a 96th-minute winner to secure all three points, ensuring that Woking remain in third position ahead of Tuesday's contest.

If the Cardinals can finish in either third or second place then they will advance straight to the playoff semi-finals, but they still have considerable work to do in their final seven games if they are to achieve that objective.

Woking have scored 13 goals in the opening 15 minutes of their 39 league games this season - more than any other side in the National League in that period - and they will be targeting another fast start on Tuesday as they attempt to claim consecutive victories.

Barnet, meanwhile, extended their unbeaten run to four competitive games with a 2-0 away win over Wealdstone on Saturday thanks to second-half efforts from Nicke Kabamba and Harry Pritchard.

The Bees finished the weekend in fifth position, and they will head into Tuesday's encounter five points adrift of their opponents, who have played a game more.

With Barnet set to face Gateshead in the FA Trophy semi-finals on Saturday, Dean Brennan will be imploring his side to remain focused on their midweek trip to Woking, where they have the chance to complete a league double after winning the reverse fixture 2-0 in August.

Only Wrexham and Notts County have scored more goals in the National League than Barnet, who have racked up 71 goals in 38 matches this term.

They still have work to do defensively, though, as the Bees have shipped 61 league goals this season - 17 more than any other side in the National League playoff places.

Team News

Charlie O'Connell rejoined Woking last week for a second loan spell of the season, and after featuring as a half-time substitute on Saturday, he could be presented with a starting place for the midweek encounter.

Charlie Wakefield, who has also recently arrived on loan, made his debut as a late substitute against Maidstone United, and he may have to settle for a place on the bench once again.

As for the visitors, new signing Emmanuel Fernandez could come into the side, after the Peterborough United loanee came off the bench at the interval to make his debut against Wealdstone.

Kabamba is the third-highest scorer in the National League with 19 goals to his name, and he will be looking to add to that tally when he leads the line on Tuesday.

Woking possible starting lineup:
Jaaskelainen; O'Connell, Cuthbert, McNerney, Casey; Ince, Kellermann; Lofthouse, Nwabuokei, Browne; Amond

Barnet possible starting lineup:
Walker; Cropper, Potter, Fernandez, Okimo; Gorman, De Havilland; Powell, Pritchard, Kanu; Kabamba

We say: Woking 2-2 Barnet

Barnet head into Tuesday's contest in promising form, but we think that they may have to settle for a point against a Woking side who enjoyed a six-game unbeaten home run before losing to Chesterfield in their most recent home match.
