Felipe Anderson: 'I feel no pressure'

West Ham United midfielder Felipe Anderson says that he feels no pressure to perform, despite arriving at the London Stadium for a club-record fee.

West Ham United midfielder Felipe Anderson has said that he feels no pressure to perform, despite arriving at the London Stadium for a club-record fee.

Anderson joined the Hammers from Lazio for a reported £35m earlier this month, which topped the £22m that the club paid for defender Issa Diop.

Speaking to The Mirror, however, the Brazilian - who was West Ham's seventh arrival this summer - said that he is "excited" about his debut season in East London.

"I'm ready for all challenges. I can accept what being a record signing means to West Ham fans and the opposition – but it excites me," the 25-year-old said. "In Italy, it was more about the technical side of the game. Here, I understand it is faster and tougher.

"But I spoke to my great friend Willian and he urged me to come here and enjoy what the Premier League has to offer. He said it has made him a better player.

"The pressure of the fee does not bother me. It's a big responsibility because it shows the club believe in me. I was at Santos with a number of big players and I've played in big clubs."

West Ham face Liverpool, who have also spent big this summer, in their opening Premier League clash.
