Live Commentary: Stjarnan 1-4 Celtic (Celtic win 6-1 on aggregate) - as it happened

Relive Sports Mole's live coverage of Celtic's second-leg Champions League qualifying win at Stjarnan to seal a 6-1 aggregate victory.

Celtic have qualified for the third qualifying round of the Champions League after beating Stjarnan 4-1 on the night and 6-1 on aggregate.

The Bhoys fell behind on eight minutes through Ólafur Karl Finsen as the Icelandic hosts halved the overall deficit following last week's 2-0 defeat in Glasgow.

However, Nir Biton levelled up on the night, before Charlie Mulgrew, Leigh Griffiths and Stefan Johansen completed the comeback in the second half as Ronny Deila's side eased through.

Below, relive our commentary.

It couldn't happen, could it? Celtic bring a two-goal lead into the return leg of their second-round Champions League qualifier with Stjarnan. And throwing it away would be a very Celtic thing to do. Let's face it: their record in these preliminary round has been less than impressive under Ronny Deila. Beating Barcelona under Gordan Strachan feels like a long, long time ago by virtue of their recent struggles in this competition.

Last season, Deila's troops were knocked out of the third qualifying round with a 6-1 aggregate defeat to Legia Warsaw. However, the second part of that tie - a 2-0 Legia win - was expunged from the records and Celtic were given a 3-0 away victory after the Poles were adjudged to have fielded an ineligible player. Technically, they advanced on the away-goal rule after the tie officially finished 3-3. But then they only went and lost 2-1 to Maribor in the playoff tie.

You see? The Bhoys are very much a mixed bag; so much so that Revels should renamed to Celtics. We just don't know what we're going to get with this mob. But they should most definitely progress into the third qualifying round. Goals from Dedryck Boyata and Stefan Johansen gave them a 2-0 win in Glasgow last week.

Will the Stjarnan fans be singing in Icelandic what the English sing when a team surrenders a two-goal lead? I'd love to give you the lyrics, but this is a family commentary.

Anywho, shall we have a look at the teams? Why not.

CELTIC XI: Gordon; Lustig, Boyata, van Dijk, Mulgrew; Brown, Bitton; Mackay-Steven, Johansen, Armstrong; Ciftci

CELTIC SUBS: Izaguirre, Ambrose, Griffiths, Stokes, Rogic, Forrest, Bailly

STJARNAN XI: Gunni - Heiðar, Brynjar, Danni, Höddi - Óli Kalli, Præst, Þorri, Addi - Pablo - Jeppe

I can tell you that Deila makes just the one change from last week's win in Glasgow, as Emilio Izaguirre drops out for Virgil van Dijk, who returns from suspension. Nadir Ciftci, who was recently given a six-match domestic ban for biting last somebody last season, will sink his teeth into the task of leading the Bhoys' forward line. Both goalscorers from last week Boyata and Johansen start in defence and midfield.

Right, we've got 10 minutes until kickoff. Prediction anyone? Alright go on then. Despite bashing Celtic earlier, I do think they'll advance - but not in the straightforward manner. I think Stjarnan will score first to put the cat among the pigeons, but the Bhoys will net a priceless away goal and that'll be that. 1-1 on the night. 3-1 on aggregate. Let's see. Email me your predictions at thiswontreachme@fakeemail.com for your chance to win a can of Lilt signed by me.

Right, both sets of players are out on the field. In fact, kickoff is moments away. They're three minutes early, but I'm not complaining.

I think the officials have realised kickoff would've been a few minutes early and we're just killing time now. Few awkward silences I reckon.

KICKOFF: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand we're off on this artificial pitch at the Samsung Arena. Celtic, playing from left to right, get us underway. Can Celtic progress? It'd be a huge shock if they don't.

Who was the bright spark that decided Celtic should wear their all-green away kit? They're blending in with the surface! It's not easy to see everything but we'll do our best. Anywho, Celtic, the invisible men, well on top in these early stages but no chances to speak of as of yet.

SHOT! Charlie Mulgrew looks poised to whip this ball into the box, but he went for goal instead in an attempt to catch out the keeper, but the keeper read it.

GOAL! Stjarnan 1-0 Celtic (Ólafur Karl Finsen)

Well, we said Stjarnan would take the lead in our pre-match prediction, that we never get right, and they've only gone and done it! It's Ólafur Karl Finsen, who cleverly cuts inside Nir Biton before beating Craig Gordon at his near post. Very calm finish by the semi-professional. That has thrown a spanner in the works.

Very little response from Celtic thus far. They're still big, big favourites to advance, but they might just need an away goal. Should they score next season, Stjarnan would then need to score three!

SHOT! Ciftci registers Celtic's first shot of the game, but it's from an awfully acute angle and it goes wide/over. Would've been a stunner had it squeezed it past Nielsen from there.

It's worth remembering that Leigh Griffiths missed a penalty in the first leg last week, which would have made it 3-0. In fact, the entire team missed a host of good chances. Might that profligacy come back to haunt them?

Stjarnan aren't a bad side going forward. Not at all. They were dominated for almost the entire 90 minutes last week, meaning we couldn't get a gauge of their attacking quality really, but they look tidy at times.

Good free kick chance for Celtic now.....

OFFSIDE GOAL! It's a well worked free kick, as Armstrong plays it short to Johansen, who fires at goal but it hits a crowd of bodies, before Boyata tucks it home from close range. However, it's ruled out for offside. Right decision? It seemed to be, yep.

Have Stjarnan defended well or have Celtic been woeful? It's a bit of both thus far. We should take into the account the artificial playing surface beneath the players' feet. Celtic look to be struggling with it. Still, they'll probably get a little more familiar with it as the minutes tick on.

Another scramble in and around the six-yard box increases anxiety among the Stjarnan fans, but no Celtic player is on hand to smash home. It's pretty obvious that the hosts have done much work on defending set pieces so that may be an avenue of success for Celtic tonight.

GOAL! Stjarnan 1-1 Celtic (Nir Bitton)

Well, it's been coming for 33 minutes to be fair, and Celtic have finally grabbed an away goal. It's Bitton, who glances home a header following Stefan Johansen's slick delivery. Goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen came for it and then fell over. He makes Manuel Almunia look like Oliver Kahn.

Just a reminder that the hosts, who trail 3-1 on aggregate, now need to score THREE goals in order to progress. That's that then. We said Stjarnan hadn't done much work on defending set pieces and that was evident with the goal. Shambolic.

CLOSE! Decent bit of improvisation by Stuart Armstrong, who turns and swings his right foot at the ball and his half-volley bounces just wide of Nielsen's goal.

The referee's had a mare here. Bjorgvinsson is upended by Bitton just outside the box, but the official waves play on. Poor call.

SHOT! The Icelanders are enjoying a decent end to the half as Daníel Laxdal drills narrowly wide. If they are to pull off this miracle of scoring three times, whilst not conceding anyway, then a goal before half-time is a must!

HALF TIME: Stjarnan 1-1 Celtic (1-3 on aggregate)

Well, that was eventful. Stjarnan, the semi-professionals, threatened a major upset by reducing Celtic's two-goal deficit through Ólafur Karl Finsen on eight minutes, but Nir Bitton, who was slightly culpable for the opener, made amends by heading home the equaliser. Speaking of heading home, Stjarnan might as well leave because, well, they need three now!

Can they come back? It's extraordinarily unlikely, but it is Celtic they're playing so who knows! That's unfair. They've been good tonight overall, and they've done well to adapt to the astro turf pitch. They've not been perfect, but they're doing enough to reach the third qualifying round as it stands.

RESTART! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand we're back underway. Celtic, who lead 3-1 on aggregate, with an away goal under their belt, kick us off once more. Can Stjarnan get back into it? Let's pretend for entertainment sake that they can. It only takes a second to score a goal and there's, hmm, what's 45x60? That's how many seconds are left anyway.

GOAL! Stjarnan 1-2 Celtic (Charlie Mulgrew)

Stick a fork in it, my friends. Charlie Mulgrew makes it 4-1 on aggregate with a very tidy finish. Scott Brown squares it to him on the left-hand side with a decent disguised pass. Mulgrew takes one touch and drills into the bottom right corner past Nielsen, who could've done a bit more it has to be said. Is he related to Leslie Nielsen? He's similarly as slapstick.

CELTIC SUB: Efe Ambrose sprints on to the field. That's good enthusiasm. He replaces Mikel Lustig.

Stjarnan are lucky here. Gunnarson gets his pocket picked by Gary Mackay-Steven, who then proceeds to sprint at goal in what would've been a three-on-one situation in favour of Celtic, but the referee blows up for an apparent foul. Odd one.

SUB: Gunnarson makes way for Thorri Geir Runnarson. You have to assume that any Stjarnan sub now is to give the players a memory, rather than hope to change the course of the game.

YELLOW! We've seen the first booking of the clash, and it's for Brynjar Gudjónsson, who upended Nadir Ciftci.

SUB: We've seen Celtic's second sub now as Leigh Griffiths replaces Matthews I think.

CHANCE! What a start this would've been for Griffiths, who pokes agonisingly wide of the mark with what was his first touch! He missed a penalty in the previous leg, so he might have something to prove this evening.

TREE WATCH! What would you do to see your favourite team in action? Some fella outside the ground has climbed a tree - quite a big one - to see this game. Don't fall pal or you'll have to take a leaf of absence from work. Apologies in advance.

Our mate has gone viral. Kinda.

The game has lost a bit of its bite in recent minutes. There's not much happening. Celtic have this one wrapped up for some time and both sides just going through the motions really. 20 minutes left. That'll seem like 20 hours for Stjarnan. Or maybe, like, 25 minutes maximum.

Incidentally, Celtic will face Qarabag FK in the third round of qualifying after they beat Rudar Pljevlja 1-0 on aggregate. Suddenly, they've got a very good chance of reaching the playoffs. That's when the good teams enter the frey!

CHANCE! Nadir Ciftci, still waiting for his first Celtic goal, should've had it here. He latches on to Leigh Griffiths's through ball but then drags his finish well wide of Leslie Nielsen's goal. We're just going to call him that from now on. Surely we can't be serious?

SAVE! Alright, Nielsen does well here. He slightly fumbles Mulgrew's free kick, but he collects the ball well before Griffiths can nip in and tap home a fourth.

Right, roughly eight minutes of normal time left. Neither side would have any complaint if the game finished now. It's been really flat for a while now. Very few chances to speak of aside from Griffiths's effort after coming on.

Ciftci has been disappointing tonight overall. He's had some cracking chances but he's fluffed his lines on each occasion unfortunately. He was recently slapped with a six-match ban for biting in a Dundee derby toward the end of last season, so perhaps he's feeling the effects of that sanction.

GOAL! Stjarnan 1-3 Celtic (Griffiths)

Really good goal as Griffiths puts the icing on the cake. Griffiths plays in Mackay-Steven on the left wing, before the latter returns the favour with a first-time pass into the six-yard box and Griffiths slots home from close range. Decent goal that.

GOAL! Stjarnan 1-4 Celtic (Johansen)

That's that. Johansen fires home Mulgrew's cut back for a fourth on the night - and sixth in the tie. Was there ever any doubt?

FULL TIME: Stjarnan 1-4 Celtic

Well, it's just been men against Bhoys tonight. Celtic ease through to the third qualifying round with a 5-1 aggregate win; winning 3-1 on the night thanks to goals from Nir Biton, Charlie Mulgrew and Leigh Griffiths. They face Qarabag of Azerbaijan in the next round. Anywho, thanks for joining me for our live text commentary and we'll see you in the third round! Until then...
