Tottenham Hotspur will break their transfer record with an £18m bid to land Valencia striker Roberto Soldado, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur are poised to break their transfer record with an £18m bid for Valencia striker Roberto Soldado, according to a report.

Spurs have been linked with a move for the Spain international after missing out on David Villa, who decided to join Atletico Madrid this summer.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas will up the ante in his search for a striker and is hopeful that an £18m offer for the 28-year-old will be enough to secure his signature, according to The Express.

Valencia have set a deadline of August 3 for Spurs to complete a deal for Soldado and this appears to have put the move into gear.

The 28-year-old scored 24 goals for the Spanish side last season.
