Tottenham Hotspur's Gylfi Sigurdsson doubtful for Newcastle United clash

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Tim Sherwood reveals that Gylfi Sigurdsson is doubtful for Wednesday night's Premier League clash at Newcastle United.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Tim Sherwood has revealed that Gylfi Sigurdsson is doubtful for Wednesday night's Premier League clash at Newcastle United.

The Icelandic midfielder picked up a thigh strain in training on Saturday and missed his side's weekend win over Everton.

Spurs will definitely be without defender Vlad Chiriches and former Roma playmaker Erik Lamela for the trip to St James' Park.

"Gylfi's not too far away, he has a slight strain," Sherwood told Tottenham's official website on Tuesday.

"Vlad still isn't right. He has a back injury and it might be some time before he returns.

"Erik had a thigh strain, he's over compensated with that and now it's referred to his back."

Tottenham's last league win at Newcastle came back in August 2004.
