Daniel Levy reveals that Andre Villas-Boas was given the Tottenham Hotspur job because of his "outstanding reputation".

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has revealed that Andre Villas-Boas was appointed the club's new head coach because the two share the same philosophy on how football should be played.

The former Chelsea boss was named as the successor to Harry Redknapp earlier today on a three-year deal.

Reflecting on the decision to hire the 34-year-old, Levy insisted that he has no reservations over Villas-Boas's ability as a coach.

"I am delighted that Andre has agreed to become our new head coach," he told the club's official website. "He has an outstanding reputation for his technical knowledge of the game and for creating well-organised teams capable of playing football in an attractive and attacking style.

"Andre shares our long-term ambitions and ethos of developing players and nurturing young talent, and he will be able to do so now at a new world class training centre."

Villas-Boas's first game in charge will be a pre-season friendly against League One side Stevenage.
