Preview: Sheffield Wednesday vs. Cambridge United - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's League One clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Cambridge United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Sheffield Wednesday shall be hoping to return to the playoff places on Saturday after they host Cambridge United in their latest League One clash, with the visitors aiming to move to the top half.

Both teams have plenty to fight for in regards to their own respective seasons, and each will be wanting to get back to winning ways after their previous outings.

Sheffield Wednesday had been on a strong run of form before last weekend, having won three consecutive matches, scoring 10 goals in the process, highlighting their attacking qualities.

However, that was ground to a halt on Saturday when they were defeated 3-1 by Lincoln City, which was a surprising result considering the league positions of the two teams.

Saido Berahino had drawn the Owls level after they fell behind in the third minute, but Brooke Norton-Cuffy, and a second goal from John Marquis ended up sealing the result.

The defeat left Darren Moore's team sat outside of the playoffs, with just a single point separating them and Plymouth Argyle in the table, and a victory this weekend could actually see them climb as high as fifth, depending on other results.

Sheffield Wednesday have been dominant at Hillsborough this season, having only lost two of their 17 fixtures, and that is something that should keep their confidence high.

On the other hand, Cambridge United have been struggling for consistency as of late, which has seen them slip into the bottom half of the League One table.

While the Owls have been good in front of their own fans, The U's have struggled on the road, winning just four times during their 18 matches, which they will need to change should they want to push further up.

Mark Bonner's team were held to a goalless draw against Shrewsbury last weekend, which marked the second game in a row where they have failed to score a goal.

With only two victories across their previous six outings, the squad will be hoping to get themselves back on track in order to finish the season in style.

Cambridge shared the points when they last met Sheffield Wednesday, in a game that finished 1-1, with George Williams having given the U's a lead, only for Fisayo Dele-Bashiru to level things up with 10 minutes to go.

Team News

George Byers was brought off midweek, but that was done as a precautionary measure from Moore, which means he should be available on Saturday to make a return.

Lee Gregory and Dele-Bashiru were also not used in the recent loss against Lincoln, but they have returned to training recently, and could also be options this time around.

Cambridge United were able to welcome back Joe Ironside to the team last weekend, marking his first appearance since January when he suffered an injury, which should bring an added boost to the squad.

Jubril Okedina and Wes Hoolahan were also brought into the starting XI, which was a change made down to form, and Bonner may look to push the same team after a good performance in their previous outing.

Sheffield Wednesday possible starting lineup:
Peacock-Farrell; Storey, Hutchinson, Palmer; Johnson, Bannan, Luongo, Byers, Hunt; Paterson, Berahino

Cambridge United possible starting lineup:
Mitov; Williams, Okedina, Jones, Dunk; May, Digby; Smith, Hoolahan, Brophy; Ironside

We say: Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 Cambridge United

Sheffield Wednesday have been in fine form overall lately, despite their recent slip-up, and Moore's men will be looking for an immediate response.

Facing a Cambridge United team who have struggled to score in their previous outings, the Owls will have the confidence that they can secure three points on Saturday.
