Partick Thistle come from behind to draw with Rotherham United

Sean Welsh scores a 30-yard equaliser to give Partick Thistle a 1-1 draw with Rotherham United in a pre-season friendly.

Partick Thistle needed a second-half equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw in their pre-season friendly against Rotherham United this afternoon.

Rotherham made the brighter start to the match as Jonson Clarke-Harris, Matt Derbyshire and Emmanuel Ledesma all tried to get involved in the Partick box inside the opening 15 minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net.

Ledesma continued to look lively in the first half for the Millers, carving out a chance for himself which was saved before setting up Derbyshire, but the striker lost out in the box.

Sean Welsh had the first real chance of the match for the home side, unleashing a powerful volley from 20 yards out, but his finish was just wide.

The Championship side were ahead a couple of minutes later though as Frazer Richardson crossed the ball in to Derbyshire, who rose up for the header to beat keeper Tomas Cerny to the ball.

Ledesma could have doubled Rotherham's lead shortly after the restart as he blasted the ball in from a free kick, but it flashed across the face of goal before going wide.

The miss allowed Partick to press down the other end, allowing Welsh to try another effort from 30 yards out, which this time ended up beating Adam Collin to level the scores.

Richardson, who had the assist for the first goal, tried to create a second for Rotherham with a cross in towards Clarke-Harris, but the striker could not turn it in at the far post.

The visitors continued to do the majority of the pressing in the final stages as they tried to find a late winner, with Clarke-Harris involved again as he powered the ball towards goal, with his finish brushing the side-netting.
