FIFA presidential election to take place despite corruption allegations

FIFA confirm that the presidential election will go ahead as planned on May 29.

FIFA have confirmed that the presidential election will go ahead as planned on May 29, despite an investigation into corruption allegations taking place.

It had been suggested that Friday's scheduled presidential elections would be postponed following the news that several FIFA officials were arrested on suspicion of corruption.

However, FIFA spokesperson Walter De Gregorio has stated that it will take place as originally intended.

"There is no idea to postpone the FIFA Congress or the election," De Gregorio told a press conference.

Incumbent president Sepp Blatter is bidding for a fifth term at the head table of world football's governing body, but faces competition from Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein of Jordan.
