Swansea City manager Garry Monk bemoans Newcastle United fightback

Swansea City boss Garry Monk admits Newcastle United were fighting for their manager's job as they pegged the Swans back to a 2-2 draw this afternoon.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has admitted that the fight shown by Newcastle United made it hard for his side to see out their game this afternoon.

With Magpies boss Alan Pardew under pressure, his players twice fought back from a goal down to earn a 2-2 draw at the Liberty Stadium, Papiss Cisse coming off the bench to get both goals.

Asked if the Newcastle players were fighting for their manager's job, Monk is quoted by The Chronicle as saying: "Yeah, I knew that would the case and it showed.

"We were dominant but we conceded at poor times. The game was there for us. I think it's two points dropped.

"The goals we conceded were poor. There was a lack of concentration and it's disappointing. We can't get sloppy and that was our downfall."

Newcastle are still in the relegation zone with just four points from seven games, while Swansea are sitting pretty in the fourth Champions League spot with 11 points.
