Newcastle Jets still searching for first win of season

Central Coast Mariners come from behind to draw 1-1 at Newcastle Jets to deny the hosts their first A-League win of the season.

Newcastle Jets are still searching for their first win of the A-League season after surrendering the lead to draw 1-1 at home to Central Coast Mariners.

The home side came closest to breaking the deadlock in the opening half as Edson Montano struck the post with a header from Scott Neville's cross.

The Ecuadorian did manage to put his side ahead just three minutes after the break, though, as he swept the ball beyond the reach of Liam Reddy.

However, their lead lasted less than 10 minutes as Richard Vernes smashed home Michael Neill's cross from close range to tie the score up.

The Jets continued to push for winner and were unlucky to see Marcos Flores's effort rebound back off the upright.

However, they were left to thank Ben Kennedy two minutes from time as the goalkeeper pulled off a reaction save from Matt Sim's shot to ensure his side left with a point.
