Half-Time Report: Miralem Pjanic strike puts Roma ahead

Miralem Pjanic scores the opening goal to give Roma a 1-0 lead over Napoli in their Serie A match.

Miralem Pjanic has given Roma a 1-0 lead over Napoli at half time in their Serie A clash at Stadio Olimpico this afternoon.

The visitors made a bright start as Jorginho tried to play the ball forward after a quick run down the wing, but there was no-one there to meet it, while a Gonzalo Higuain effort was blocked.

Jorginho was in again later in the period, creating some space on the edge of the box before curling a shot towards goal, but it ended up going well high of the crossbar.

Despite Napoli's bright start, it was the home side that opened the scoring when Alessandro Florenzi picked Pjanic with a through-ball, leaving the striker to power it into the bottom right corner from the edge of the box.

Dries Mertens tried to set something up to get the visitors back on level terms, but his cross into the box failed to connect with Higuain, while a Jonathan de Guzman strike was blocked.
