Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour tells Manchester United to attempt to swap Alexis Sanchez for Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale.

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has urged Manchester United to attempt to swap Alexis Sanchez for Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale in this summer's transfer window.

Sanchez, who is currently on the sidelines with a knee injury, has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford as the 20-time English champions look ahead to the 2019-2020 campaign.

Indeed, the 30-year-old has only scored five times in 41 appearances since arriving from Arsenal in January 2018.

Bale, meanwhile, has struggled for consistency this season and it is thought that Zinedine Zidane's return to the Bernabeu as head coach has placed United in a strong position to sign the Wales international.

Parlour has claimed that the Red Devils should be looking to offer Sanchez to Madrid this summer in a bid to bring former Tottenham Hotspur attacker Bale back to the Premier League.

"[Sanchez] was brilliant at Arsenal. I do like him. He was one of those players who you would pay to watch," Parlour told talkSPORT.

"Sanchez was in such great form at Arsenal. I know a lot of Manchester United fans and I said to them, 'You got an absolute bargain there – £20m for a player of his calibre – he's going to make your team much better'.

"But it just hasn't happened for him. I'd go to Real Madrid and I'd swap him for Gareth Bale. They'll be on the same sort of wages."

Bale - contracted to Madrid until the summer of 2022 - has scored 13 times in 34 appearances for Los Blancos during the 2018-19 campaign.
