Liverpool reportedly join rivals Manchester United in the race to sign highly-rated youngster Geovany Quenda from Sporting Lisbon.

Liverpool have reportedly joined Manchester United in the race to sign Sporting Lisbon star Geovany Quenda.

Man United have been linked with a few Sporting players since Ruben Amorim left the Portuguese giants to take over the reins at Old Trafford.

Midfield Morten Hjulmand and prolific striker Viktor Gyokeres are among those who have been mentioned as possible targets for the Red Devils.

They have also emerged as potential suitors for Quenda, with the Red Devils ready to make a £50m bid to prise the youngster away from the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

The 17-year-old has been gaining plenty of attention after becoming a regular fixture in the Sporting first team this season.

Liverpool join Man United in Quenda race

Quenda, who can play as a winger or a wing-back, has made 20 appearances in all competitions this term, chipping in with two goals and two assists.

While Amorim could be a key factor if Man United pursue a deal for Quenda, the Red Devils will have to fend off competition from a number of other top European clubs.

According to TEAMtalk, Premier League leaders Liverpool are among the clubs who could rival Man United for Quenda's signature.

The report claims that Quenda's agent, Jorge Mendes, is planning to meet with Liverpool to discuss Quenda's availability after previously speaking to Man United over the details of a potential deal.

Who else is interested in Quenda?

Mendes is also expected to meet with Premier League champions Manchester City, who are also said to be considering a move for the highly-rated youngster.

In Germany, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig have both made approaches to Quenda's representatives over a potential transfer

French giants Paris Saint-Germain are another top club who could play a part in a transfer battle as they look to bolster their squad following a number of underwhelming results in the Champions League.

Quenda, who has also been linked with Arsenal, is said to have a €100m (£83m) release clause in his contract, meaning that his suitors will have to splash the cash if they are to secure his services in 2025.
