Man United will reportedly have to pay Erik ten Hag a significant compensation package after deciding to relieve the Dutchman of his managerial duties.

Erik ten Hag is reportedly in line for a huge compensation package after being relieved of his duties as Manchester United manager.

Man United announced on Monday morning that they had decided to part ways with Ten Hag following a disappointing start to the season.

The Dutchman saw his side collect just 11 points from nine Premier League matches, while they also drew each of their first three games of the Europa League.

Sunday's 2-1 defeat to West Ham United ultimately proved to be Ten Hag's final game in charge of the 20-time English champions.

Ten Hag won two trophies during his time in the Man United dugout, lifting the 2022-23 EFL Cup and the 2023-24 FA Cup.

Ten Hag's compensation package revealed

Having taken the decision to part ways with Ten Hag, the Man United hierarchy will now have to pay a significant compensation package to the 54-year-old.

According to GOAL, Man United will have to spend around £17m after sacking Ten Hag just four months after extending his contract.

In July, Ten Hag extended his deal until the summer of 2025 after the club decided against sacking him following the club's FA Cup triumph.

Ten Hag's compensation package will fall short of the reported £19.6m that it cost Man United to sack Jose Mourinho in 2018.

How much would it have cost to sack Ten Hag in the summer?

Man United will ultimately have to pay Ten Hag considerably more than they would have done if they decided to dismiss him at the end of last season.

Before extending the Dutchman's contract, the Red Devils would have had to pay around £10m to part ways with the former Ajax boss.

As a result, Man United have effectively cost themselves £7m by deciding to stick with Ten Hag for the start of the current campaign.

The Man United hierarchy will now be focusing on potential successors, while interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy will prepare the team to Wednesday's EFL Cup clash against Leicester City.
