Louis van Gaal to give Manchester United team double pre-season sessions

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal reveals that he intends to make his players take part in double training sessions during pre-season.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that he will organise double training sessions for his players during their pre-season tour of the United States.

The Dutchman introduced the gruelling sessions following his arrival at the club last summer, and numerous players, including Wayne Rooney, have admitted that their manager's approach is tough.

Ahead of United's trip to Seattle, San Jose and Chicago this summer, Van Gaal has revealed that he intends to repeat his pre-season training methods.

"When you are always in the same city, you don't have a time difference," The Mirror quotes Van Gaal as saying. "Last year we had a lot of time differences, so you cannot train them properly.

"Your body is not used to it at that time, and therefore it was not good. But now we are always in the same base camps, so we have no time difference.

"Also, we have chosen our hotel, nearer the training accommodation. So it is now easier to train twice a day and that is very important in pre-season. The most important aspect is building up our team with individual players, so they are thinking like a team, but also we need fitness and match rhythm, and therefore we have to play matches, but we also have to train as well."

In Van Gaal's first season in charge at Old Trafford, the 63-year-old guided the Red Devils to fourth place.
