Jose Mourinho insists that he deserves greater recognition for what he achieved as Manchester United manager.

Jose Mourinho has claimed that he deserves greater recognition for what he achieved during his time as Manchester United manager.

The 56-year-old moved to Old Trafford in 2016 and claimed the Europa League and League Cup during his first season at the club.

However, Mourinho's team suffered a marked drop in form during the second half of the 2017-18 season, and he was eventually sacked by United in December after overseeing the club's worst start to a league campaign for 28 years.

Interview with Sky Sports News, Mourinho admitted that he felt hard done by in the way his time at United was perceived.

"I can just say that the Manchester United time was not an easy time," he said. "I always felt that to win the Europa League was fantastic and it didn't look like it was, the way people approach it."

"To finish second was even more than that [success], so probably I was feeling a little bit like: 'Wow, I'm working well, I'm giving everything and I'm not getting what I think that deserves'.

"The only thing I can promise you is that when I have the next club, the next project, I will be so, so happy that I will walk into that press conference with a big smile. That I can promise."

The Portuguese has insisted on a number of occasions that finishing the 2017-18 season in second place was one of the finest achievements of his managerial career.

Mourinho also confirmed in the interview that he had received a number of job offers since December but was still waiting for the right one to come along.
