Juan Mata says that the win over Huddersfield was "special" as it gave Manchester United's players a chance to pay their respect to those lost in the Munich air crash.

Juan Mata has dedicated Manchester United's 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town to the victims and families of the Munich air crash disaster.

Saturday's victory at Old Trafford came three days before the 60th anniversary of the tragedy, which saw 23 people killed as the Red Devils returned from a European match.

Supporters in the stands paid their respects before this weekend's game, and Mata - who played 71 minutes of the contest - was keen to pay his own personal tribute to those who perished in the crash.

"Obviously it was a special game, a very sad memory," he told reporters after the match. "It was a thing that changed the history of the club and the club showed the passion and the energy that we all have in Manchester United.

"So, we pay respect to the victims and their families, and they will always be in our memories. It was a game to win for them and we did it."

Alexis Sanchez got off the mark with his first goal since joining United in the two-goal win, while Romelu Lukaku also registered his 18th of the campaign.
