Jose Mourinho offered Syria job

The Syrian FA reveals that it has formally offered rumoured Manchester United target Jose Mourinho the job as head coach of its national team.

The Syrian Football Association has revealed that it has submitted a formal offer to Jose Mourinho to become the new head coach of its national team.

Mourinho has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in December, just seven months after leading the Blues to the Premier League title.

The 53-year-old has been heavily linked with the Manchester United post since his departure, but Syria have launched an audacious bid to entice the Portuguese boss in their quest to reach the 2018 World Cup.

"After a meeting between the president of the Syrian Football Federation; Salahuddin Ramadan, the vice-president of the Syrian Union Chairman of the national teams, the director of the first team, Fadi Dabbas and secretary-general of the Syrian Football Federation Qutaiba al-Rifaiit, it was agreed to send a formal offer to the agency of the coach Jose Mourinho to train the Syrian national football team," read a statement on the Syrian FA's official Facebook page.

Syria currently sit 123rd in the FIFA world rankings, between Georgia and Swaziland.
